Tai Chi Forms, Tai Chi Energetics/Qigong and Push Hands (two person drills) all teach the same basic principles in various ways.  Whether practiced together as a more complete art, or separately, each has a positive effect on one’s spirit, mind and body. Below are our class descriptions.

Beginner Classes

All our classes include simple, low impact movements that increase flexibility, balance, range of motion, vitality, relaxation, mental focus, strength and overall well being.  Each student can learn at his/her own pace in a relaxed, noncompetitive atmosphere.  The exercises are safe for all ages, but please let your instructor know if you have any physical limitations.

Tai Chi-Yang Family Form:  Traditional Yang Family 108 Long Form (also known as the Yang Cheng Fu Large Frame Public form) Tai Chi is a form of “moving meditation” practiced with slow, relaxed, and flowing movements.  The art is ideal for those seeking gentle rehabilitative exercises for reducing stress, and/or to study “inner power” or your “true nature” through calmness.  It is a low impact exercise that emphasizes  balance, grace, and fluidity of motion.

As you learn the Large Frame form of Yang Cheng fu you will focus on physical body alignments (body structure) and methods of moving (body mechanics) to prevent and heal various injuries as well as making both body and mind stronger more relaxed and focused. The large frame specialty is large expanded movements emphasizing what we refer to as Peng Energy in the body.

Begin your class with a gentle warm-up stretching session (jibengong and kaimengong) and continue on learning the classical forms in sequence.  These include: Parting Wild Horses Mane, White Crane Spreads Its Wings, Cloud Hands, Grasping Sparrow’s Tail, Fair Lady Weaves Shuttle, Needle to Sea Bottom, White Snake Turns and Spits Venom, and many others.  In time, you will experience these individual forms integrating into a continuous meditative flow.

Tai Chi Energetics/ Qigong:  the private family forms (Also known as the secert transmissions of Yang Jian Hou) is an authentic Yang Family form, The exercises are from the “Old 6 Roads” Middle Frame, the original form of Yang Lu Chan. Increase energy and relaxation with this very calming class.  Strengthen your bones and joints, improve circulation, and exercise your internal organs as well as the entire body with a variety of healing exercises.

With roots in Chinese medicine, Qigong is a practice of cultivating and balancing life energy through aligning breath, movement, and awareness.  Today, numerous studies in medical research worldwide have concluded that qigong practice plays a positive role in various categories of health benefits, and is being studied as a form of alternative medicine.

Tai Chi Two Person Exercises – partnered tai chi practice which focuses on balance stability and the non usage of force to strengthen the mind and body . the focus is on partnered patterns and drills. these methods are used to develop martial arts skills and power (jin). you will learn the various self defense applications and techniques of the yang family forms.
